Ihr Weg an die Spitze der Weltrangliste wurde jäh gestoppt. Im April 2009 gewann Sabine Lisicki (20) in Charleston (USA) ihr erstes Profi-Turnier, kletterte bis auf Platz 22. Dann der Absturz auf Rang 40. Verletzungen pflastern ihren Weg – bis heute. In BILD spricht die Berlinerin über die schlimmste Zeit ihres Lebens.
BILD: Wie geht’s Ihnen?
Lisicki: „Schon besser, aber es ist schlimm, so lange raus zu sein.“
BILD: Nach Ihrer Schulterverletzung vor einem Jahr mussten Sie einen neuen Aufschlag lernen…
Lisicki: „Das klappte auch gut. Mein Fehler war aber, dass ich zu oft zu früh zurück wollte. So war es auch bei den US Open. Erst fünf Tage vorher begann ich mit dem Training. Das passiert mir nie wieder.“
BILD: In der 2. Runde knickten Sie um, lagen schreiend und weinend quälend lange 15 Minuten auf dem Court. Was war los?
Lisicki:„Ich schrie nach Eis, nur nach Eis. Schon als Kind habe ich gelernt, dass Eis das Wichtigste ist. Wie schnell es kommt, davon hängt ab, wie lange man anschließend ausfällt. Ich habe mich gewundert, wie lange es dauerte. Mein Vater hielt es nicht mehr aus und brachte mir welches. Dann sah ich, dass sich die Männer schon einspielten, als ich noch nicht mal im Rollstuhl saß. Das war enttäuschend.“
BILD: Als Sie wieder klar denken konnten, was ging Ihnen durch den Kopf?
Lisicki: „Ich dachte: ‚Nicht schon wieder!‘ Erst die Schulter, nun der Fuß. Da waren so viele Emotionen, die kann man nicht beschreiben.“ Read the rest of this entry »
Melbourne is so full of memories for me. This was where I played my first grand slam two years ago, when I qualified and reached the third round and I’ll always remember that.
This is my favourite grand slam and I always look forward to coming here. The whole tournament is well organised, we’re right in the city, the people are nice. It’s just a really nice tournament. It is a wonderful city and the fact that the hotel is right in the centre means that it’s very easy to go for a coffee and relax away from the tennis.
I have heard that Melbourne is often described as a very European city and I agree with that. My mum is here for the first time this week and she and I have both felt very comfortable here. She loves it as much as I do. I grew up in Germany.
My favourite thing about the tournament is that the crowd is always really good and people like to come and watch us all play. There is always a great atmosphere and the people seem to be so excited that we are here to play.
I arrived Wednesday last week so I have had some time to adjust to the courts and it was very good. I have been feeling very good on court. I played the Hopman Cup the week before that so I have had lots of time to get over the jetlag and just get used to being here in Australia. Perth was fun too and I enjoyed playing tennis for fun.
That was a great experience and I got to see a few sights there too, including going to Perth Zoo to feed the kangaroos. They are really big – much bigger than I thought they would be – and they are kind of scary but then you touch them and their fur is really soft. It’s a big privilege to see them and a great experience because you don’t get them in Germany.
Here in Melbourne I guess restaurants are the big thing and I went to a really nice one the other day, right on the beach. It’s called the Stoke House and it had a beautiful view looking out over the sea. We ate a lovely dinner and watched the sunset over the water.
I know that you get a cuddly kangaroo or koala when you win the tournament because I have watched it on TV many times when I was growing up in Germany. I always wanted to come here and maybe that’s why it’s always been so special to me. It’s kind of strange to think back to being a kid, all those thousands of miles away from Melbourne, watching players like me. The thing that I remember most is that they always looked really sweaty, which was hard to understand when you are a little kid in freezing Germany!
US-Open-Siegerin Sabine Lisicki? Warum nicht! Vor dem letzten Grand Slam des Jahres spricht die deutsche Hoffnungsträgerin im SPOX-Interview über ihre Furchtlosigkeit, ihren Weg zur Nummer eins - und über Mode.
Eine Schulterverletzung machte der 19-Jährigen zuletzt zu schaffen, aber bei den US Open wird sie bereit sein. Bei SPOX spricht Lisicki über ihr großes Selbstbewusstsein und ihren Weg nach ganz oben. Frage: Sie sind am Donnerstag in New York angekommen. Schon beim Shopping gewesen?
Sabine Lisicki (lacht): Nein, noch nicht. Jetzt zählen für mich erstmal nur die US Open. Während eines Turniers mag ich es nicht, mich mit irgendetwas anderem zu beschäftigen. Ich konzentriere mich ganz auf meine Matches. Aber nach dem Turnier werde ich vielleicht mal losziehen und mir etwas Schönes zum Anziehen kaufen. Ich interessiere mich sehr für Mode, ich habe nach Wimbledon auch die Fashion Week in Berlin besucht.
Frage: Sie haben ein ganz starkes Wimbledon-Turnier gespielt. Mit welchen Erwartungen treten Sie jetzt in Flushing Meadows an?
Lisicki: Wimbledon war in der Tat ein großartiges Turnier für mich. Im Viertelfinale eines Grand Slams zu stehen, war eine schöne Erfahrung. Bei den US Open bin ich zum ersten Mal in meiner Karriere gesetzt (an Position 23, Anm. d. Red.), darüber freue ich mich sehr. Ich werde es so wie immer angehen, Match für Match, und nicht zu weit vorausblicken. Dann schauen wir mal, wie weit ich komme.

Nach ihrem Aus in Wimbledon stellt sich Sabine den neugierigen Fragen des Veranstalters. Sabine spielte ein klasse Turnier und mischte die Tennis-Scene gewaltig auf. Doch leider war ihr gegen die (noch) amtierende Weltranglisten-Erste Dinara Safina kein Sieg vergönnt. Im Dritten - und alles entscheidenden Satz, schwanden Sabines Kräfte und so musste sich die junge Berlinerin der erfahreneren Russin geschlagen geben. Hier Sabine Lisickis Statement direkt nach dem Turnier:
Q. Have you even surprised yourself as to how well you played today and this week and last week?
SABINE LISICKI: Overall, yes. I’ve been surprised how far I got and how well I started to play.
But I think the key was the very first match where I was actually two points away of losing the match and I turn it around. After that I really started to playing better and better and to believe that I can do good.
Yeah, and today I actually went out there and I felt pretty good. Also yesterday and this morning hitting the ball very solid. I think it was a good match.
Q. When you have a serve as big as yours, is it good to know you have that up your sleeve, that you can bring that out on clutch points and win easily with that serve?
SABINE LISICKI: Yes, of course. I mean, today I didn’t get broken once. I was down Love‑40, and I still got back and I won that game.
Q. That was a close one in the end again. Did you feel any nerves in there when had you to finish it?
SABINE LISICKI: Well, a bit I think when I was 5‑2 up. I served at 5‑3 I think having new balls, so I didn’t play that game well. But, you know, I just kept fighting. I missed some opportunities at 5‑4, but I managed to serve well at 5‑All to go up to 6‑5 and just fought to finish up the match.
Q. The reason why I ask is that I remember your final against Caroline Wozniacki in Charleston where you should finish the match and…
SABINE LISICKI: Yeah, well, I mean, I guess it happens. You’re nervous. It’s the first time I’m in the second week, and I just kept telling myself, You have nothing to lose; just go for your shots. That’s what I did in the end. It turned out to be good. Read the rest of this entry »
